OK, here's what happened.
My friend Ranger Shayne turned up with AWOL, the model cassowary, in tow to my birthday party (apparently she's taken him to many such parties). He's on a trolley with wheels.
His name is AWOL because he's been missing in action for quite some time (hiding out at a local resort - cleverly disguised) and the department of Parks & Wildlife had only just located him.
So after Shayne rescued him from the resort, well of course he just had to come to my party as her date.
Now because he is quite large and heavy, and because Ranger Shayne & Ranger Cameron might have had one too many Wild Turkeys at my party, AWOL couldn't be reloaded back onto the Ranger-mobil. So... he moved into my Studio for a month or so waiting for someone to pick him up to go back to Parks & Wildlife head office.
And of course I couldn't resist having some fun with him. I had people dropping by regularly just to see what AWOL was wearing next.

Little Sweep the cuckoo-shrike just after I rescued him. He fell out of his nest onto the road as I drove passed. He is the most delightful little character.

Two years ago in the middle of a storm, Kim went out onto the verandah to discover a very very cute and fluffy baby bird asleep on our hibiscus. His mummy bird had brought him in out of the weather. He continued to come in to sleep there for a few days. Then he discovered a large hook on one of the roof beams. He now comes in to sleep there most nights. It is very cute.
