We live in the most wonderful place where the creatures around us share their world with us.
Here are some of my favourite photos along with some of the paintings that have developed from those pictures.

I love my digital camera!

Female Yellow-bellied Sunbird
I can take no credit for this fantastic shot.
My friend Alana stood on a chair on her verandah for an hour to get this.

'Mrs Sunny'

The most patient little bird, sitting on her eggs
with her little verandah overhead.
They don't mind having us around at all.
We have bits of wire hanging on our verandah so they can build
heir cute little hanging nests.

Mr & Mrs Sunbird checking out our verandah for a suitable nesting site.

'Speak to the Sky'

(cos I was listening to Rick Springfield at the time)

Rainbow Lorikeet

Lorikeet is my Guide name.
I chose that because I reckon that they are loud and silly birds,
and that pretty much gives me license to do what I want.

'Itchycoo Park'

Love the song and it suited them.
This is a typical sight, lorikeets coming in to sleep,
all squawking, and fighting over who gets to sit on what branch.

Forest Kingfisher.

'The Blues brothers'

We have so many of these little kingfishers around.
Sometimes all you see is a flash of blue.

Female Cairns Birdwing drinking nectar from an Ixora
Birdwings are huge, the female can have up to a 150mm wingspan

Male Cairns Birdwing butterfly

We brought a Cairns Birdwing butterfly cocoon inside to watch it develop.
This is our bouncing baby boy drying his wings.

'Revolution Baby'

and Clump Mountain in the background

White-lipped Green treefrog

I love frogs
This one was in the middle of the walkway at Marni's school.
I moved him somewhere safer.
They are so-ooo cute when they wrap their little pads around your fingers.

'Barry, Robin & Maurice'
This is one of the few paintings that I actually gave a name to
before I started painting. It was completed it shortly before the death of Maurice.

Most of my frogs have male rock star names

Marni & I had the pleasure of feeding 'Buz' who was the latest rescued baby
at the Ranger Station (pre-Larry).

'Lucky'
painted on a cassowary egg for Ranger Shayne

Betty lives in the forest near the Ranger Station at Garner's Beach.
Each individual bird has their own identifiable charactoristics.
Betty is easily recognisable as she has a 3 wattles (the red dangly things) instead of 2.

'Betty 2'

Ulysses butterfly.

It's so hard to get photos of these guys, they never stay still.
It is equally difficult to capture their amazing irridescent electric blue colouring in paint.

'Joyce'

This was a commissioned painting.
It was named after my clients friend
who passed away whilst I was painting it.

The next 5 paintings were commissioned for Department of Main Roads head Office, Townsville
My challenge was to capture the region that their office covers, so I offered.

* Reef
* Rainforest
* Coastal
* Western
* Waterfall

Great Barrier Reef.

I use all sorts of images and memories to creat reef scenes using real and imagined fishes

Water Lilly, Double Lagoon

My dear friend Alana spent the day taking photo's for me on her friend's property
called 'Double Lagoon' near Normanton.

DMR#3 --- 'Single Exposure, Double Lagoon'

Rainbow Bee-eater

We see these birds everywhere along the coastline.
They actually build their nests in burrows in the ground.
They are very community minded and look out for each other and all of the kids.

DMR#4 --- 'Sunshine Superman'

Bee-eater overlooking Narragon Beach (our beach)
with native Hibiscus flowers(Cottonwood)

Wallaman Falls
Australias longest single drop waterfall near Ingham. 268m drop
