Cotton or Hibiscus Harlequin Bug Nymph(Tectocoris diophthalmus)

These amazing coloured bugs are found all up the East Coast.
Apparently they are partial to young hibiscus shoots which make them a pest to keen gardeners.

But I am just blown away by the fabulous colours. Theses ones are young Nymphs,
the adults are apparently orange. It seems that the mothers lay their eggs on a branch and then sit on top of them to protect them until they hatch.

Amethystine Python

Leering at the possum, thankfully they can't get in.

Basil the white-tailed rat. (Uromys caudimaculatus)

White-tailed rats grow to an enormous body length of 330mm with a tail length of 345mm.
They are native nocturnal rats whose diet consists of just about anything, including car wiring!

Golden Orb Spider (Nephila spp.)

The beautiful Golden Orb Spider can grow to the size of an blokes hand-span
They weave lovely golden webs. I don't mind them, cos they aren't hairy - I don't do hairy spiders...

Lace Monitor (Varanus Varius)

Australia's second largest monitor. Can grow to 210cm.
They are a common sight on some of our coastal rainforest tracks.

Amethystine Python (Morelia amethistina)

These magnificent pytons can grow to 5 m long and are Australia's largest snake.
They are however not potentially dangerous as they are non-venomous, but will bite if harrassed.

This particular beauty was around 4m long and was sleeping peacefully in our garden, until Kim disturbed it.
It was so quiet though, it would just pop it's head under a leaf and pretend it wasn't there.

Eventually it moved on, we were aware of it moving under the leaf litter, but got the shock of our lives
when it's head popped up about a metre away but the massive coils hadn't moved!
If you look closely, you can see the head on the right hand side of the photo

Brown Tree Snake (Boiga irregularis)

Recently re-named 'Badcockalopolis @#$%@ Snakus!'
As we have had so many of the things in our house!!!
